McDonald's To Pay Employees Who Get COVID-19 Vaccine

McDonald’s Corp (NYSE: MCD) announced plans to give corporate and company-store workers up to four hours of paid time off to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
On Tuesday, the fast-food giant said it will not require employees to receive the vaccination but will connect them to third-party experts who can answer questions about the shots.
“Vaccination is essential in the fight against the pandemic, and we are actively encouraging McDonald’s employees to take this important step,” Tiffanie Boyd, McDonald’s U.S. chief people officer, said in a statement to NBC.
“Ensuring widespread availability and access to the vaccine will require extraordinary partnerships between businesses, governments and community and health organizations, and we’re engaging with government officials and our partners to understand where McDonald’s can further support this work,” said Boyd.
Tuesday’s announcement does not affect franchisees, who operate 95% of the 13,680 McDonald’s restaurants in the U.S., and are responsible for their workforces, Restaurant Business noted.
McDonald’s joins a growing number of companies in offering incentives to encourage inoculations. Aldi, Trader Joe’s, Dollar General Corp (NYSE: DG), Instacart and Darden Restaurants Inc (NYSE: DRI) also recently announced plans to pay workers who receive the vaccine.
