Professional Training Institute Announces Virtual Course Offerings for 2021
Online Higher Education Offerings For Teachers Include New “Beyond Associate” Seminars
Needham, Massachusetts—Commonwealth Learning Center’s Professional Training Institute (PTI) has announced a new virtual training schedule for 2021. The independent nonprofit organization isa Boston-area leaderof research-based professional development programs designed to help teachers and specialists meet the needs of students who require systematic and multisensory learning approaches.
These online courses and seminars are being offered in response to COVID restrictions that have forced in-person education to temporarily cease. PTI previously offered programming at the Needham and Danvers Commonwealth Learning Center locations, as well as schools and meeting spaces throughout New England. Course titles include Orton-Gillingham Level 1: Associate Level Practicum and Fieldwork, Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing® (LiPS®) program, and Nancibell® Visualizing & Verbalizing® for Language Comprehension and Thinking. Many of the courses will begin in the summer when school is out of session.
New to the training offerings are a series of Beyond Associate seminars that are designed for teachers who have completed Associate or Classroom Educator Orton-Gillingham training and seek further enhancement of their diagnostic and prescriptive teaching skills. Although there are three seminars that make up the series, participants may attend one, two, or all of the sessions. These feature remote live instruction on three dates. The first seminar in the series, Infusing Vocabulary and Comprehension Skills into the OG Lesson Plan, was held on January 7. The remaining two will take place on February 4 and March 4.
“The Professional Training Institute is currently closed for in-person programming, but we are pleased to offer virtual trainings and seminars, as well as remote Orton-Gillingham observations and mentoring,” said the Institute’s Principal Director, Lisa Brooks. “Enrollment for many of our courses is on an on-going basis, which offers added convenience and flexibility for teachers interested in enrolling in them. We hope our online offerings reach more educators who previously didn’t have the time for the in-person training sessions.”
