Owner Arrested After Tiger Runs Free In Texas Neighborhood

The owner of a tiger was recently arrested after his tiger managed to get free and wander around a Houston, TX neighborhood on Sunday night. The tiger has still not been found but residents of the Houston suburb have been submitting reports claiming to have seen the tiger. One neighbor was quoted saying that families had spotted the tiger sitting in the front yard of a home while out on an evening walk. The tiger has been caught on video walking toward a Waller County sheriff’s deputy who lives in the neighborhood.

The police arrested the tiger’s owner, Victor Hugo Cuevas, on Monday night. Cuevas was released on bond. Tigers are not allowed in Houston unless a handler, like a zoo, is in charge of caring for the animal. Multiple Houston residents have been found guilty of keeping big cats in their yards. During the winter storm in February, a pet tiger was found in Bexar County wearing a harness and was rescued and moved to Cleveland Amory Black Beauty Ranch in Murchison, Henderson County. Another tiger was found abandoned in a home in Houston. It was subsequently named Loki and moved to Black Beauty Ranch as well.

A number of politicians are pushing the Big Cat Public Safety Act in Congress, which would ban the possession of big cats like tigers and lions as pets and make it illegal to use them at facilities that allow public contact with big cats. The Houston tiger remains at large, however, and a number of families in the area are concerned for their safety, fearing what could happen should they come in contact with the tiger.

This incident is the subject of a great deal of discussion in North Texas and several journalists and other individuals have written about it, including one blogger who works for The Barber Law Firm (a personal injury law firm based in Dallas). The firm posted an article about the incident on their website discussing the incident and explaining the illegality of keeping a big cat under such conditions. The firm is just as concerned about the safety of those in the Houston neighborhood as anyone else, especially considering the firm’s area of expertise: personal injury. They have long made it their mission to keep their community informed of recent events and how a legal situation could develop.

The Barber Law Firm offers legal representation for those facing personal injury cases. When one is injured in an accident caused by someone else’s negligence, like the release of a pet tiger, they often find themselves facing a number of obstacles on their way to receiving the compensation they deserve. Everyone has the right to seek out fair compensation for the losses incurred due to the negligence of another party, and having a skilled, experienced lawyer can make a world of difference. Learn more about this on the firm’s community blog.

“At The Barber Law Firm, we have more than 17 years of experience fighting hard for client’s personal injury claims,” the firm says. “Our firm focuses most of our practice on car accidents, other types of negligence claims and workman’s compensation. Each day, we go up against the insurance companies and their adjusters — the people who are hired and trained to minimize claims and pay as little as possible. Don’t settle for less by attempting to battle the insurance companies on your own. We fight hard against insurance companies from our multiple office locations in Dallas, Plano, Fort Worth, Grapevine, Irving and Frisco. Insurance companies typically send adjusters out quickly to accident victims after an accident to try to settle those claims for as little as possible.”

The firm hopes that no one is hurt by the escaped tiger but if anyone should find themselves in need of legal assistance to claim compensation for any injuries sustained, The Barber Law Firm would be more than happy to help. The firm is always looking to help people obtain justice in the form of adequate compensation, and with a tiger on the loose in Houston, it is very possible that someone might need an experienced lawyer to guide them through a personal injury case.
