A loving family adopted Dave Stevens in Phoenix, Az, and encouraged his pursuits of regular sports. He played football, baseball, and wrestling. He was so valuable that he set three Arizona state high school records. These records were: most wrestling takedowns, most career baseball walks (132), and the season record for walks (44). Due to his dedication to excel, his alma mater renamed their Most Valuable Player award the "Dave Stevens Hustle Award."
Winning awards seems to be in alignment with Stevens' winning attitude. Stevens has proudly showcased the seven (7) National Sports Emmys awarded him during his ESPN broadcasting career. He covered fourteen (14) Super Bowls, three (3) World Series, three (3) NCAA Final Fours, and various other historic sporting events.
Stevens met The Keep Smiling Movement's Executive Director, Dr. Andrea Adams-Miller, during the Celebrity Softball Game in Arlington, TX in 2021. The www.CelebritySoftballClassic.org is an incredible co-ed event. This annual event attracts professional athletes, musicians, film and television actors, reality television stars, celebrity veterans, and fitness models to compete in a softball game to raise money for veterans' services.
While photographing players with a 'Keep Smiling' card, Adams-Miller noticed Stevens looked unwell and intervened to secure his health. It was a hot day, so some food and water put Stevens quickly back in commission. Her timely intervention caused them to become fast friends.
Stevens has been featured on: "That's Incredible" CBS Morning News; The Today Show; Good Morning America; This Week in Baseball; Baseball Tonight; Extra; USA Today; That's Incredible Reunion Sports Illustrated; Baseball America; The National Enquirer; Star Magazine; People; ESPN's SportsCenter, and hundreds of other radio shows, podcasts, news, and sports periodicals.
