Dallas Enters Phase 1C Of COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution

Dallas, Texas has entered phase 1C of the COVID-19 vaccine distribution program, meaning that Texans over the age of 50 who did not qualify for the COVID-19 vaccine during phases 1A and 1B have now become eligible. This information is accurate as of Monday, the 15th of March, as shared via a new article from NBC 5 DFW.

The article also mentioned, “According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, there are about 5 million Texans between the ages of 50 and 64, and the state estimates about 1 million have already been vaccinated. People in that age range are considered high-risk for either becoming seriously ill or dying from COVID-19.”

Also, "More than 93 % of the Texas fatalities directly caused by the coronavirus have been in people 50 and older, with those ages 50 to 64 accounting for 20% of all fatalities. By including this next most vulnerable group, Texas will continue to reduce the number of people who are hospitalized and die from the disease across all races, ethnicities and occupations," Texas DSHS said in a statement offered to the publication.

The same article also commented on the current waiting list, writing, “Dallas County Health and Human Services said since the news of the expanding the age group for vaccinations, it's seen around 200,000 more people register for a vaccine. That brings a total of 900,000 people currently on the waiting list.”

Another article from March 15th from CBS 11 DFW also shares that Dallas is also working to get vaccines to FEMA-Priority Zip Codes. The article reads, “As more doses of the COVID-19 vaccine arrive in North Texas, the City of Dallas is working to help people living in priority areas, as designated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), register to get their shots. Anyone living in one of the 17 zip codes considered a priority can call the recreation center in their area and set up a vaccination appointment. Once the date and time are scheduled the patient will also receive information on when to arrive at a designated pickup location to be driven to the Fair Park hub.”

The blog for The Barber Law Firm, Dallas commented on these developments on a blog post, sharing the news and stating the importance of making sure all Texans know which their nearest vaccination hub is and ensuring that they get a spot for the vaccine. Daniel James, an editor for the law firm blog, says, “We’ve all spent a long time dealing with the stress of this pandemic, and for the longest time it seemed like there was no end in sight. However, now that vaccines are available and being distributed, it is very important that everyone gets the vaccines as soon as possible, both to ensure their own safety and the safety of everyone else in the community.”
