Miller's Supplies at Work Celebrates 50th Anniversary

Local company celebrates half a century of supporting Mid-Atlantic businesses.

On February 1, 1971, Pat Miller, armed with a clear vision for business and a steadfast commitment to customer service, purchased an office supply store in Springfield, Virginia. That was the start of a long and evolving journey for Miller's.

Wayne Stillwagon, Miller's current Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, joined Pat in 1976. Together with the help of everyone who has worked for Miller's over the years-and there are 100's-they built an organization that focuses on treating employees and customers with respect, providing exceptional customer service and practicing solid business discipline.

Today Miller's is one of the largest independent and second-largest woman-owned distributor in the Washington-Baltimore metro area. Having begun as that single 1,200-square-foot store, Miller's operates a 65,000-square-foot distribution facility in Lorton, distribution centers in Waynesboro and Winchester, manages a sizeable fleet of trucks and vans, has more than 100 dedicated employees provides supplies and services to more than 2,700 commercial, nonprofit and government customers.

In 50 years, the company has learned to adapt quickly to market changes and to meet the needs of customers. The organization embraced the shift from retail store to commercial contract supplier. They have navigated the rise of big box stores. They have expanded into breakroom services and the contract furniture to meet the needs of the growing corporate mid-Atlantic market.
