Haltom City Native Nicholas Donias Files to Run for Haltom City Council Place 1
Commitment to Listen to Constituents, Masters in Public Administration from Columbia and Experience in Public Infrastructure Finance Make Him Strong Candidate
HALTOM CITY, TX, February 11, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Nicholas Donias has filed to run for Haltom City Council Place 1. A third-generation Mexican American, Donias was born and raised in Haltom City. He attended local public schools and spent many hours in Haltom City's public library.
"My library card opened up a lot of new worlds for me, and I am partly motivated to run for Haltom City Council by a desire to give back to a city that offered me so much growing up," said Donias.
Despite separating from his parents and enduring a period of homelessness while he was in high school, Donias graduated second in his class and was admitted to Brown University. After graduating from Brown, Donias earned a Fulbright Scholarship and taught English in Brazil.
An important experience in Nicholas's professional life was the time he spent working for the United States National Economic Council in Washington, DC. His work was focused on understanding the factors that added time and cost of major public infrastructure projects and finding ways to get those projects done more quickly and efficiently, including private/public partnerships.
Fueled by a desire for a career in public service, Donias eventually earned a Master's in Public Administration from Columbia University. "At Columbia, I was mentored by some former mayors of major U.S. cities and that led me to my current work, for the past 8 years, advising state and local governments on finance of infrastructure projects," said Donias.
Donias believes Haltom City's small businesses are what gives the city its unique character. He supports streamlining the permitting and C.O. process for new businesses in Haltom City and reducing unnecessary regulations that hinder growth of existing Haltom City businesses.
As a Mexican-America growing up in a multi-generational household, he is also sensitive to issues affecting Haltom City's diverse communities and senior residents. He is committed to repairing and improving public infrastructure, such as roads, city buildings and water systems. He also is sensitive to revenue and expense issues that translate to increased taxes and surprise utility bills.
